CC Week 2

Since I am Annie's teacher, I have lots of pics of her class from today.  The only pic I have from Mollie Grace's class is a picture of their completed art project posted by a mom on Facebook.  Maybe someone will post more pics.

Singing our history sentence into an echo mic.

The presentation topic this week was to tell about something fun you did this summer.  Annie chose our visit to MawMaw and PawPaw. She's showing a picture of the Mississippi River bridge in Vicksburg.  Crossing it is always a highlight of our trip.  She also had pictures of riding Zac's horse and swinging with Emalee, Rylee, and Marlee.

Science experiment -- can we make a magnifying lense with water and wire?  Yes, we can.

 Learning about mirror image.

 Drawing mirror image bald eagles.

Harris' dad drew the right side of the eagle.  We copied it on cardstock and the kids drew the left side.  This is Annie's eagle.

Silly faces at the end of the day while we were cleaning up.

This is Mollie Grace's classes bald eagles.  Hers is on the bottom right.

Potluck

We had a potluck Sunday night at church.  We were told it would be awesome but not what was happening.  When we got there the stage was set up for Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader.  Kids vs Adults.  The younger kids got to be helpers.  Ben and Mollie Grace were helpers in the first round.

Happy Birthday

We celebrated John's birthday on Saturday.  We had a Mississippi State themed birthday party.  Annie is not in any of these pictures, but she was there.

Mollie Grace made John this awesome 41 crown.

 Opening his gift from Ben.

Mollie Grace decorated her bag with a smiley face and a balloon.

Random Pics

Annie's sailboat.  She drew it with dry erase markers so we took a picture before she erased it.

Mollie Grace and Annie fixed Annie's hair.

Mollie Grace found a clover that she wanted to take a picture of.

Mollie Grace built this cool building.

First Day of CC

Today was Mollie Grace and Annie's first day of CC.

This is Annie's first year in class.  She is the youngest in her class of seven.  Everyone else is already four.  I am her tutor.  I am presenting their Latin with an owl puppet we named Augustus (for Caesar Augustus).  You can see the back of Annie's head at the bottom right.

We're running in place while practicing counting to 12.  That's Annie's back with the white t-shirt and ruffled shorts.

Ready for her first presentation.  They had to bring a bag with four items to tell about.  Annie chose her blankie, Peaches (a stuffed dog), Meoee (a stuffed cat) and a picture of our family.

 Practicing drawing.

This was Annie's completed art project, one of Columbus' ships to go along with our history sentence.  I gave step by step instructions and the class followed along.  I was so impressed with all of their work.

Clean up time.

Mollie Grace is in an older class.  Maybe someone will post pictures of her class so that I can share them.

Eclipse

Annie, Mollie Grace and I watched the eclipse from home.  Ben's class got to go outside at school and look at it.  They also did eclipse art and had an eclipse snack, Capris Suns and Moon Pies.  I gave the girls Oreos and called them eclipse cookies.  When we picked Ben up from school Annie told him:  "The sun looked-ed like the moon but it wasn't the moon."  Even John took a pair of eclipse glasses to work and went out and looked at it.

We watched the Oregon eclipse on NASA TV (via YouTube).

I'm only wearing a camisole because our A/C was broken and it was hot even inside our house.

I wasn't planning to let Annie look at the eclipse but realized I could put the eclipse glasses on her under the patio and hold them on her while she looked up at the sun.

This was the moment of the greatest coverage here, 1:23 p.m.  Mollie Grace was underwhelmed.  She wanted to know when the really cool thing was going to happen like we watched on TV.

I read that you could cover your camera lense with the eclipse glasses and take a picture.  This is my attempt.

Random Pics

These are a few random pics I found on my camera.

 Ready to break geodes.

I was injured in this project.  I was (unwisely) holding the geode still while Mollie Grace hit it with the hammer.  She missed and hit me so then she was on her own hammering.

FedEx Family Picnic

This afternoon we attended the yearly FedEx Family Picnic.

Last year they were putting Thomas away and Annie did not get to ride and she hadn't forgotten.  We rode Thomas first even before we ate this today.

 After face painting.

 Turtle race.

Pedro the donkey at the petting zoo.

We asked someone to take a family picture because Ben wanted one to hang in his locker.

Mollie Grace needed a close up of her fish before she had to wash her face.
