CC End of Year Program

Yesterday was the girls' end of year program at CC.  Nana and Grandaddy came and watched.

Mollie Grace led the Pledge of Allegiance.  She is dressed as an astronaut because she recited the history sentence about the first moon landing:  "In 1969, U.S. astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin were the first men to walk on the moon."

Everyone sang John 1:1-7 in English and Latin and weeks 13-24 of the Timeline (Age of Exploration to Modern day).  My class (Annie's class sitting along the front edge) sang the Presidents Song all together.

Ben was at the program because he had oral surgery on Monday and was supposed to stay home from school to recover.  He's fine and back at school today.

The volume is really quiet on this video.  It sounds fine on my phone but didn't load on the computer right.

Ben

 This has been the week of Ben.  Math Olympics on Wednesday, a field strip to the Cotton Exchange of Friday, and the North District Recreational Soccer Tournament in Corinth this weekend.

 Saturday it rained hard in the morning.  They pushed our games back to the afternoon.  It was drizzly but manageable.

 The fields were so wet that the ball would just die when they kicked it.

 Ben's shorts don't match because they were so wet after the first game that I dried his jersey under the hand dryer in the bathroom between games and let him change shorts and socks.  The socks only stayed dry a minute, though, before he had to squish them back into his cold, wet shoes and shin guards.

 Today only John and Ben went.  They said it was cold.  They won the first game, but lost their final game to a Columbus team 0-5.  They got medals for second place.

Math Olympics

Yesterday Ben participated in the Math Olympics.  Six kids from each grade (3rd - 8th) represented Northpoint in a competition against area Christian schools.  Three students competed in Computation and three in Reasoning.  Ben competed in the Reasoning category. He said it was mainly word problems and patterns.  They were scored on three 11 minute tests.  They took a fourth 11 minute test to serve as a tie breaker.  There were still ties.  Ben tied for 5th place.

Easter

To prepare for Easter this week, we opened our Resurrection Eggs and followed along with posts from our church that walked through Holy Week in real time.  Thursday night we attended the Maundy Thursday service.  Easter morning we worshiped at our church and then had lunch and hunted eggs with friends at the country club.

Birthday Boy

Ben turns 10 on Tuesday.  Saturday evening we celebrated his birthday.  He chose grilled chicken, twice-baked potatoes, and asparagus for supper.  We had cake and icecream and opened presents.

 Mollie made him a 10 crown.

State Parade

The 4th grade learns about the states in social studies.  They do a big project called the State Parade.  Every student chooses a state and create a float to represent it.  The instructions specifically said this is a "family" project.  John, Ben, and I were all involved in Ben's float.  He chose the state of Alabama.  We decided to make a cardboard racecar.  We when learned that Alabama was the 22nd state in the Union and Bobby Allison (from Alabama) drove the 22 car in 1983, we decided to model Ben's float after Bobby Allison's car. We worked on this project for nearly two weeks.  Since we knew we were going to Nana and Grandaddy's house the weekend before the project was due, we started at the end of Spring Break.

 John cut the car out of card board.  We hot glued it together and duct taped the seams.

 Ben and I painted it white.

 John drew the Alabama decals and 22 on the sides and top.  I painted Alabama and outlined the 22s so that Ben could fill them in.

 Ben painted the windows and windshields.

 Ben chose sponsors that represented Alabama -- universities, major Alabama companies, and famous people from Alabama.  I helped him print them.

 Ready for the parade.  I didn't get a picture earlier in the morning of the car being transported to school.  We woke up and it was RAINING!  A cardboard car cannot get wet.  We lifted the car body off the wagon, wrapped it in a huge piece of plastic that was in the garage, and John carried it into school.
