Playing with Nana

Nana came to visit today. Our original plan was for her to spend the day observing our routine and learning where things are to make next week easier. They were planning to keep Ben at our house while John and I went to the beach in Mexico for several days. However, we've had to postpone our trip due to the stupid swine flu, but Nana came anyway just to visit. Ben had lots of fun playing with her.

Mashed Potatoes Anyone?

Ben loves feeding himself mashed potatoes. He just hasn't quite mastered the technique.

Bye Bye Bottle

Ben had his last bottle Friday night. I didn't remember that was going to be his last bottle or I would have taken a picture. Saturday morning I remembered that I had planned to not give him a bottle. Had I forgotten, Sam called that morning to see if I was really going to do it. The time was right. He was down to one bottle a day, before bed. We had made our trip home for Easter. AND, the Farmer's Alamanac said this week was a good week for weaning. We're working on establishing a new bedtime routine. Last night he drank some formula from his sippy cup while we ate supper. I brushed his teeth, John read him a book, then we put him to bed. He fussed for a minute or two before falling asleep, sleeping through the night. This morning, he guzzled formula from his sippy cup. That was a relief since before last night he had not been willing to drink one sip of milk from a cup.

Busy Boy

Ben fell this afternoon and busted his lip, the third time in about 10 days. This was the first time I was there, though. It seemed like there was blood gushing everywhere. He was crying. I grabbed a wash cloth to wipe the blood away and my cell phone to call Aunt Connie to see what else she did when he fell at MawMaw's on Easter. I remembered something about ice. However, seeing the phone shifted Ben's attention from his bloody lip to wanting to play with my cell phone. Before anyone could answer at Aunt Connie's house, he had taken the phone and had quit crying. I decided if the hurt could be cured with a cell phone, there was no need for me to panic.

Here is a picture of him later in the evening taking all the plastic containers out of the kitchen cabinet. This is almost as fun as taking all the books off his bookshelf.

Notice his shorts. His little legs are so short that they look like crop pants.

Happy Birthday 2

A Few More

We had a birthday party for Ben Saturday. He had not gotten his whole nap in and was VERY fussy. Cara's pictures are much cuter so maybe she'll send me some and then I'll post them.

Here are a some cute pictures from the weekend.

Egg Hunting

Ben had no interest in egg hunting or even in the eggs themselves. These are pics from the egg hunt at Aunt Sue's house.

Dressed Up

Here were are in our Easter clothes. Nana made Ben's outfit.

Worn Out

Ben didn't take a nap at church this morning (He seldom does). With our busy day yesterday and no nap this morning, he was worn out at lunch today. I looked over and he was sipping on his drink with his eyes closed. Then his drink came out of his mouth and he was sound asleep sitting in his high chair. I wanted to take a picture, but decided it would be nicer to put him to bed.

A Trip to the Zoo

Cats, Cats Everywhere

We took Ben to the Memphis Zoo today for his birthday. We had a great time. He saw cats of every shape size and color. Some of them swam, others swang from trees. Ben called every animal a cat. His favorite cats were the polar bear and panda bear because they were in glass enclosures and they both came right up in front of him. He laughed and laughed when that happened. I took lots of pictures of the back of Ben's head while he looked at animals and a few pictures of the animals themselves. I'll post a slideshow of the rest of our zoo pics.

Ben napped on the way to Memphis, but did not sleep a minute on the ride home. Here are a couple of pictures from the ride home.

Once we got home, I thought he would nap, but no. Here is picture of him playing in the yard this afternoon. He finally crashed about 7:30 p.m.

Our 1 Year Old Boy

We had our mini birthday party at lunch today because a driver's dad died and John needs to go to the visitation tonight. Ben enjoyed the cupcake. At first he was wary of the part with icing. He ate all the plain pieces first, but then dug into the top. He was completely uninterested in opening gifts. John opened his presents. Once the barn was unwrapped, Ben became interested. He wanted it out of the box. He got the Fisher Price farm set from Nana and Grandaddy. John and I bought him a set of Tonka trucks with a garage (John can't wait to play with them) and a Boz DVD. I look forward to watching a DVD other than Cedarmont Kids.

Ready to Party

Are you thinking "Who cares about the cupcakes, we want to see a picture of the birthday boy" yet? Well, he's taking a nap right now so no pictures.

So you can all go, "Ahhhh."

Birthday Preparations

The cupcakes are baked (but not iced), the gifts are wrapped, it's nearly time to celebrate. Happy Birthday, Ben! We are having a mini-party (just the three of us) at lunch today. Tomorrow we plan to continue the celebration and go to the zoo. Ben's "real" party is next weekend at my parents' house.
