EOY Program Videos

Talladega

John's pictures from the racetrack.

Talladega/Oak Mountain

We made our first camping trip of 2021 to Oak Mountain.  On Saturday we attended the Xfinity race.  With about 30 laps to go the bottom fell out.  We were prepared with ponchos but Annie's face tells how we really felt.  The rain only lasted a few minutes but it was hard and soaked the track.  They called the race.  Driving back to Oak Mountain we got caught in a terrible storm just as we were getting on the interstate.  It was truly terrifying.  On Sunday, Ben and John returned to Talladega while the girls and I hung out at the campground.  The girls roller bladed, played in the sand, and we kayaked.  When we returned to the trailer Marcie sat on my head.  She does not like being left alone.  These were the pics from my phone.  I'll have to get some track pics from John.

CC End of Year Program

Another year of CC is complete for the girls and me.  Ben has one more week.  We had our end of the year program Friday night.  All the students sang John 1:1-7 in English and Latin.  Annie's class sang a history sentence about Pearl Harbor.  My class, including Mollie Grace, sang a portion of the Timeline from Jesus the Messiah to the Middle Ages.  Both girls received certificates for Scripture Master which means they successfully sang John 1:1-7 in English and Latin for the director.

Open Cup

The third weekend in April, Ben's team played in the Open Cup in Decatur.  DC Galaxy from Southaven and Collierville Lobos were both there.  Ben saw several familiar faces including Leland from his Predators team.  I wouldn't have recognized him.  He used to be blond.  Also, while he was on the field a player from Galaxy asked, "Ben, is that you?"  His name was Eli and he was in Ben's grade at NorthPoint.  I created a huge pad for Ben's cast so that he could play.  I bought a faucet cover from Lowe's, cut it to the correct size, added extra quilt batting, and then sewed elastic in both ends.  We put black elastic straps around it to make it less puffy.  The team called him Baymax from Big Hero Six.  They finished second in the tournament behind Huntsville's United team.

Faces of History

In Essentials (the afternoon writing program Mollie Grace does on Wednesdays), they finish the year with a Faces of History Paper.  She chose a person from American history, researched her, and wrote a five paragraph research paper.  She stood up before her classmates and presented three facts about her person and they had to guess who she was.  Her real name is Matoaka but her father gave her a nickname that means "playful one."  When she was kidnapped by the Englishmen, they renamed her Rebecca.  When she married John Rolfe, she became Lady Rebecca Rolfe.  Who is she?  Pocahontas.  Her costume was reused from when she was Kaya for Halloween a few years ago, but she made her own mocassins to go with it.

Fractured Wrist

And then the Monday after Easter, Ben got hurt at soccer.  He hit his wrist on another player's shin and fractured his wrist.

At Urgent Care getting his wrist x-rayed.

A picture from the parking garage of The Orthopedic Clinic going to see a pediatric orthopedic specialist.

Getting a cast.  We were just happy not to have surgery.

Thankfully we were able to get Ben taken care of in time for Annie's dance lesson because they got their costumes.  She has been waiting for this day for months!

Ben was already committed to referee two U6 soccer games Tuesday night.

The girls called me outside to take a picture of this frog.

When they called me back outside I thought they wanted another picture of the frog but no it was this HUGE snake!

Easter/Ben's birthday

April started out with a super busy weekend -- two Easter eggs hunts, Ben's had a soccer game in Florence, Ben's 13th birthday, and Easter.  We dyed eggs.  John and the girls forced a "last hug as a 12 year old" on Ben.  The girls and I went to a Sunday School egg hunt while John and Ben went to Ben's soccer game.  Ben scored.  In the afternoon we hunted eggs in our neighborhood and then celebrated Ben's birthday in the evening.  Ben got $13 from MawMaw Wilma and PawPaw Sherman.
