Planting

Our neighbor, Mr. Gerald, helped Ben and me plant our garden this morning. Ben is planting sqash seeds.

It doesn't look like much because we planted squash, cucumber, and carrot seeds. Ben is standing by our two tomato plants. The two barely visible mounds at the front are squash. There are two more mounds behind them that are cucumbers. Then there is a row of carrots down the right side across from the tomatoes.

Mollie hung out on a blanket and watched us planting.

Planting the garden was cool, but going for a ride on Mr. Gerald's golf cart was cooler.

Space shuttle

For several weeks on the way home from church Ben has told me that he saw a space shuttle. I've just said, "Yeah, uh-huh." Last night, I realized that he always tells me that at the same place so I looked around to find the space shuttle -- a cell phone tower right by the road. I didn't tell him it wasn't a space shuttle.

Dr. Seuss

This morning I asked Ben what he wanted for breakfast suggesting cinnamon toast, cereal, or leftover crumb cake. He said, "I want green eggs. Dr. Seuss loves green eggs." He's obviously having a very creative day. He had already painted and glued before 8 a.m.

Stirring green food coloring into his eggs.

I was amazed that he actually ate them along with a piece of cinnamon toast. And yes he's sitting on a wire shelf in the middle of the kitchen. That's where he wanted to eat and I decided that since he was eating a silly breakfast he could eat it in a silly place.

Monday

Mollie wants to hold her bottle herself. Ben NEVER did that.

Ben has been watching the Veggie Tales DVDs that he got for his birthday from Nana and Grandaddy. His new friend is Larry the Cucumber (a hand-me-down from the Schillings). He was determined that Larry needed to swing with him this afternoon. I tied Larry into the back of Ben's shirt.

Swinging

Mollie loves to swing. She cries when I take her out.

Ground Breaking

John broke the ground for our little garden today. It is 5 x 12. We plan to plant two tomatoes, two squash, two cucumbers, and maybe some carrots.

Enjoying digging his toes in the fresh dirt.

Pretending to plant in the freshly tilled soil. Our neighbor, Mr. Gerald, loaned John his tiller. I plan to plant our garden next week.

Misunderstanding

Yesterday Ben got in trouble at lunch. He stuck something in his nose and when John got on to him, Ben said I told him it was okay. An obvious lie. When we prayed before bedtime, John talked to Ben about telling God he was sorry for telling a lie. Ben said, "Daddy, I know a song about "a lie. A lie, a lie. . . ." I had trouble not laughing. What Ben thought was "a lie" was "alive." "Alive, alive, my Jesus is alive."
